About the Symphony

Maestro A. Brian Davenport conducts the Federal Way Symphony at the 2008 Summer Pops concert.
Founded in Burien in 1960 as the Highline Symphony, the orchestra moved to Federal Way in 1985. The orchestra performed as the Federal Way Philharmonic for 14 years until 1999 when it was decided to adopt a new name to springboard the orchestra artistically into the 21st century. The Federal Way Symphony remains committed to bringing the finest classical music to residents of the South Puget Sound region.

A fully paid orchestra comprised of about 60 musicians, the Symphony made regional impact with a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in the Seattle Opera House to open the Goodwill Games. Under the direction of A. Brian Davenport, the Symphony performs at St Luke's Church in the heart of Federal Way.

The Symphony is proud of its unique commitment to the youth of the area. The Symphony In The Schools program introduces symphonic music to local students every year. They are also one of the few orchestras that gives free concert admission to students 18 and under. The Symphony also hosts the annual Summer Music Camp at which students can advance their playing skills during the summer break. For more information on Summer Music Camp, visit the Education page.
